Elie became interested in holistic healing in 1998 while living with a family in Costa Rica. Her hostess, Mama Marta, had an aching back from working hard without the convenience of modern appliances. Mama Marta nurtured everyone, but no one nurtured her.  One night Elie massaged Mama Marta’s aching back and her tight muscles melted under Elie’s hands. Inspired by Mama Marta, Elie began her studies in massage therapy in 1999.

Since then Elie has earned a Masters of Science of Traditional Oriental Medicine from the Oregon College of Oriental Medicine (OCOM) in 2007.  After nine years in private practice at The Nourishing Medicine Clinic, Elie graduated with her Doctorate of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine from OCOM in 2016.
Elie has worked in several of the Northwest Primary Care medical clinics around Portland and strongly believes in the integration of Chinese medicine with the best of biomedicine.  As part of her training, she worked with homeless folks being treated for drug and alcohol addictions at Central City Concern, with low income seniors at Hollywood Senior Center, with in-patients at San Diego Hospice, and with a world renowned Chinese medicine practitioner, Robert Doane at his Acupuncture and Wellness Center, the busiest acupuncture clinic in the U.S..  Elie trained in acupuncture and Chinese herbal therapy in Taiwan with a well-respected master of Chinese medicine, Dr. Lee.Dr.
